I approach these classes with a fun and energetic vibe while also taking them very seriously. I love working with young people — their cups are definitely always half full. I believe it is our responsibility, parent or not, to guide these kids on the right path. As the teacher, I promise to be an upmost example to your young ones in and out of class. As the parents, I depend on you to make sure your child is on time, dressed in full karate GI, hands and feet must be clean, finger and toe nails trimmed. The more time each child spends on a home practice will be noticed in the next class and help with advancement. Each child needs a karate GI. Talk to me before obtaining one as only certain GIs can be used.
Each class is built upon the six core values of self-defense:
This Tang Soo Do based Karate class is designed to get the little ones interested in martial art. Kids at this age have a hard time retaining intricate instructions, which is why I keep it real simple and fun. The focus of this class will be on Kee Cho Hyung II BU 1 steps 1-2 and will run around 30 minutes. The last 6
minutes consists of a game or storytime.
At this age, these kids really develop into real martial artists. This is an all-level class. The more one practices what has been learned, the quicker one moves through the process of eventually testing for a higher belt. This class will focus on the Hyngs or forms — 1 step combos, 3 step combos, blocking, kicking, punching, takedowns, and submissions. Most importantly, I will make sure your child knows how to apply what he or she has learned in a real-life self-defense situation. At the end of each class, I like to do a karate competition or competitive games. This class is 45 min.
