This is a very slow-paced class. Yin restorative incorporates the principles of traditional Chinese medicine with asana postures. Holding poses for longer periods of time while using props to help support the pose & body, so the mind may relax. Targeting different muscle and skeletal regions throughout the body while focusing mostly on the breath, yin is very much a meditative approach to yoga. Restorative yoga applies low stress to the tendons, fasciae, and ligaments, increasing flexibility and circulation. This is a great class for anyone, all ages all bodies. Restorative is a great practice for people dealing with injuries or mental ailments.
In this class, I will lead you through the first half of the Ashtanga primary series to Navasana, or boat pose. The practice is traditionally done Mysore-style, which hails from Mysore India. We start the class with the opening invocation — call and response — connecting the teacher, student, and class. Then leading through the Ashtanga series of poses, focusing on the breath movement, and the dristi, or focus point of the eyes. Sanskrit names and count will be recited along with breath count and western names of poses. Ending with closing chant and Savasana meditation.
This is not a traditionally led class. From Mysore India, this style allows each student to move at their own pace, while receiving one on one instruction and adjustments from the teacher. Mysore is great for building a strong personal practice, in this class you will learn bit by bit the sequences of poses in correct order, that eventually will form the first primary series. Focusing on the breath, state of the pose, and the drsti. Beginners totally welcome, once again you set the pace for your practice in Mysore. For more information please inquire.
